Our Story - A Divine Assignment!
Back At Home began as a calling, not a business plan, sparked in 2017 after my father, KC (William Reed Jr.), passed away from kidney complications. In a dream, I saw him at peace in our old family home’s den. The next day, I found it abandoned and in pre-foreclosure. A second dream led me to buy it at auction for the same price my parents paid over 20 years ago. This became KC’s House, our first Sobriety Home, offering safe housing for men seeking recovery—honoring KC’s legacy as a quiet AA sponsor with pockets full of sobriety coins.
Next, The W House, once slated for sale, and Granny’s House, my grandmother Florence Lewis’s home and a former St. Francis House leader, called to be restored. In 2022, my cousin’s idea to use them for transitional housing took root, reinforced by friends and talks on entrepreneurship. This inspired Auntie Ebony’s House, a nurturing space for young women from foster care or juvenile systems to heal and grow, with Uncle Markus’ House planned for young men.
Today, The Back At Home Project offers short- and long-term housing with mentorship, job access, and community, giving residents safety and a renewed sense of self. It’s more than housing—it’s healing, legacy, and family.
