What We Need & Why We Need It
Because every person deserves a beautiful, safe place to land!
At Back at Home Living, we pride ourselves in the transformation of a room to beautifully decorated space that feels like home. We transfer old homes into peaceful havens and rooms into what feels like a tiny house for people rebuilding their lives—whether re-entering independence, overcoming homelessness, or just in need of a fresh start or a stable safe “home environment” with guidance and support.
We also provide moving support for residents launching into their own apartments, helping them carry the beauty and serenity they’ve experienced with us into their next chapter.
We even renovate homes and can help our residents build tiny homes for those still unsheltered - Your help makes all of this possible.
⸻
Toiletries
So new residents have the basics—soap, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, and more—when they arrive.
Towels, washcloths & linens
Fresh, clean bedding and bathroom items are always in demand.
Comforters, pillows & sheets (twin and full sizes)
Help us create cozy, dignified sleeping spaces for every bed.
Furniture (beds, mattresses, dressers, couches, chairs, tables, lamps)
We furnish every home with love and comfort—your gently used furniture helps set the tone.
Decor & Household Essentials
Wall art, fake plants, picture frames, throw pillows, rugs, and other small touches help our homes feel beautiful and complete.
Kitchenware
Pots, pans, plates, cups, utensils—so residents can cook and eat with dignity.
Food (pantry staples or safe-to-share restaurant surplus)
Non-perishable goods and prepared food (from kitchens that would otherwise throw it away) help us keep pantries stocked.
Cleaning supplies
We need everything from paper towels to disinfectant, gloves, mops, brooms, and laundry soap.
Clothing & shoes
Especially comfortable, weather-appropriate everyday clothing, undergarments, and workwear.
Gift cards (Walmart, Dollar Tree, etc.)
Gives our residents the freedom to get what they personally need.
Bus passes & gas cards
Transportation helps residents stay connected—to jobs, support, and opportunity.
Tech donations (gently used laptops, phones, tablets)
Vital for job searches, staying in touch with family, and accessing community resources.
Building materials
We regularly renovate properties and build tiny homes. Donations like wood, paint, doors, flooring, nails, tile, hardware, and trim go a long way.
Volunteer support
We always welcome help—from mentors, movers, decorators, drivers, organizers, and people who just want to lend a hand.
⸻
Your donations help us do more than fill homes—they help us fill lives with hope, dignity, and new beginnings.

Why Design Matters at The Back At Home Project
Interior Design with Impact — Healing Begins with Environment!
We’re proud of what we’ve designed ourselves—but when our volunteer interior designers step in, it transforms everything. Residents are in awe. They keep their spaces cleaner, feel more at home, and take pride in their rooms like never before.
And when it’s time to move into their own apartments, we often call on designers again—so their healing environment moves into their new place too.
Annual Interior Design Awards
Each year, we recognize five standout designers whose work brought beauty, healing, and dignity to our spaces.
What We Provide to Our Volunteer Interior Designers
With the help of generous donations, we ensure our designers have the tools and support they need to bring their vision to life:
The Psychology of Design & Recovery
Studies show design directly impacts mental health:
• Calming, well-lit spaces reduce stress and anxiety
• Personalized rooms boost confidence and motivation
• Clean, beautiful environments improve sleep, focus, and hope
Design at Back At Home isn’t just décor—it’s dignity, peace, and a launchpad for a better life.
Join our team of volunteer designers—and help us change lives, one room at a time
